Who I am and my first days in Ohio

Hey there! I am a 24-year-old exchange student from Finland. I am studying in the fall semester of 2022 in the United States in the state of Ohio at Ohio Northern University. I'm in the fifth year of business studies at the University of Eastern Finland in Finland. My major is international business and sales management. I am scheduled to graduate with a master's degree in economics in June 2023. I have studied marketing and information systems science as minor subjects. In addition to my studies, I have worked as a digital marketing specialist in a Finnish insurance company.

I arrived in Ohio on August 17. Five days before the courses started. My original intention was to come to Ohio on August 9, but unfortunately, I could not arrive at that time due to work. The flight from Finland to Detroit took 13 hours and included one change in the Netherlands. From Detroit, it was another two hours by taxi to the university. The journey sounds much shorter than it was. In total, I was awake for more than 24 hours.

Arriving at the university was a bit confusing because all the conversation with the international mobility services was made by e-mail because I didn't have a US phone number yet and using my Finnish number would have been extremely expensive. However, I managed to register at the university and get the keys to my apartment. The apartment was a little different from what I'm used to in Finland. In Finland, very few people live in a "cell apartment." Instead, most students have studios or two-room apartments where they live by themselves throughout their studies. However, the apartment was relatively cozy, and I could fit everything in my room. The first night I went to the store quickly to buy some fast food and water, and then I went to bed.
